Covering a fence without a wind problem

Fence banners hang on chain-link, wire mesh or hoarding and advertise projects, sponsors or events. Because fences are usually in open, windy places, choice of material matters.

Mesh or PVC

Mesh has tiny holes that let wind through, so it puts less load on the fixings and suits fences on open ground. PVC gives the sharpest printing and blocks the view behind, which is useful for hiding building sites but places more load on ties.

Sizing

Measure the fence panel or the area where the banner will hang. Enter width and height in centimetres in the calculator. Common sizes are 3 x 1 m and 6 x 2 m.

Fixing

Hems and eyelets are placed along the edges, and cable ties or rope secure them to the fence. Use plenty of fixings, spaced regularly, to avoid flapping and tearing.
