Contrast between velvet and shine
Spot UV coats chosen areas of a card in clear, glossy varnish while the rest stays velvety soft-touch. The difference in sheen and texture is what people notice, so it works best on a bold logo, a large initial or a pattern rather than on small text.
Designing the varnish layer
We need a separate layer or file showing exactly where the gloss goes. A solid black-on-white shape is the clearest way to mark it. Keep gloss areas at least 1 mm wide and avoid placing them right at the trim edge, because tiny misregistration is visible.
Stock choice
350gsm soft-touch is firm, and 400gsm is a very thick card. Very dark cards look most striking with a spot gloss logo, but fingerprints show more on black soft-touch.
Timing
The extra coating stage means the lead time is longer than for plain cards. Order early if you need them for a launch or an event.
